The annual DBREV Presentation was held at UCT on 14 April and was a most successful evening.  Trustees and Scholars would like to thank all who attended.

Bobby Aitken introduced the evening with an explanation of the aims and focus of the Scholarship, while Jason Schäffler, Technical Coordinator of REEEP’s Southern Africa Secretariat, gave an engaging talk on the rapidly increasing potential of the off-grid Renewable Energy market in Southern Africa.  He also conveyed a message from DBREV sponsors SANEDI/RECORD.

Helene van der Merwe provided an insight into Doug, and his passion for Renewable Energy. She also spoke of one of his mentors, Prof Costa Rallis, whose widow Lucy has made an extremely generous donation to DBREV in his memory.

Our current Scholar Kimenthrie Pillay, presented her thesis project which examines the use of cell phone technology to map energy poverty.

We were pleased to welcome two previous Scholars, Gaby Pitman (2010-11) and Sean Kirsten (2013) who reminded us of their project topics, and told us about their present careers and future plans. In addition Riaan Opperman (NMMU 2012) sent his update as a slide presentation.

Look out for a call for applications for the 2016 Scholarship which will go out later this year!
